The free Defense of the Ancients (search the web for DotA-Allstars) mod also enables many additional hours of online fun. One of the best real-time strategy games ever.
This game is by far one of the best PC games I have ever played.
The story mode and online play are great. It was a great game when I originally got it about over 5 years ago, and its still a very awesome game.
Once you start playing that, you are hooked. One of the best creations for WC3's longevity is DOTA. Great game. Even though this game is a few years old, I still found it incredibly enjoyable. The replay values is also amazing, especially if you have friends that play on battle.net.
Micro-managing single characters is not why I came to this game. Conclusion: I got this game hoping to resurrect the fun of WC I&II and Starcraft that I played in college. I would be better off with Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth. A couple things to note: 1) There's no support for widescreen play. No such luck. I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. All the characters are squished on my laptop and even cartoonier than intended.2) There are harsh and constant limits on unit production. So my fond memories of attacking the enemy with massive armadas are but memories.3) Because of that, the gameplay really depends on leveling and managing one or two hero characters.
